Instructions

  • Begin by preparing the marinade. In a large bowl, combine the lime juice, olive oil, minced garlic, chopped cilantro, chili powder, ground cumin, salt, and pepper. Whisk these ingredients together until well blended, creating a vibrant marinade.
  • Next, place the flank steak in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it is evenly coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
  • When you are ready to grill, preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  • Remove the flank steak from the marinade and let any excess marinade drip off. Discard the leftover marinade.
  • Place the flank steak on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, depending on your desired level of doneness.
  • After grilling, remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for about 10 minutes.
  • Once rested, slice the flank steak against the grain into thin strips.
  • Serve your Perfect Homemade Carne Asada immediately, either on its own or in tortillas with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For a spicy kick, consider adding diced jalapeños or a splash of hot sauce to the marinade. You can also experiment with different cuts of beef.
