Instructions
Select the freshest ingredients, including ripe tomatoes and high-quality mozzarella.
Wash the tomatoes under cool running water and pat them dry.
Slice the tomatoes into thick rounds, about half an inch thick.
Prepare the mozzarella by slicing it into rounds that match the thickness of the tomato slices.
Layer the salad by alternating slices of tomato and mozzarella on a serving platter, adding basil leaves in between.
Drizzle the olive oil generously over the salad.
If desired, drizzle balsamic vinegar over the salad.
Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Allow the salad to rest for a few minutes before serving at room temperature.
