Filling Ingredients

  • 4 medium Apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, sliced thinly.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon Adds warmth and spice to the filling.
  • 0.25 cups Brown sugar Gives the filling a deeper sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice Brightens the apple filling.

Egg Wash

  • 1 large Egg Beaten for brushing on the crust.

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Whisk until well mixed.
  • Add cold, diced butter to the flour mixture. Work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add ice water, mixing gently until the dough begins to come together. Avoid overworking the dough.
  • Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. In a bowl, toss apples with brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the chilled dough into a circle about 1/8 inch thick.
  • Transfer the rolled-out dough into a tart pan, pressing it into the edges and trimming excess dough.
  • Arrange the apple filling evenly over the crust, overlapping the slices for presentation.
  • Brush the crust edges with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes until apples are tender and crust is golden brown. Rotate halfway through baking.
  • Let the tart cool for 10-15 minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar or serve with ice cream if desired.
