  • 4 whole Burger buns Opt for soft brioche or whole grain buns for added flavor and texture.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil Used to grill the halloumi and add flavor.

Fresh vegetables

  • 4 leaves Lettuce leaves Use crisp varieties like romaine or butter lettuce for crunch.
  • 1 large Tomato Choose a ripe, juicy tomato for optimal flavor.
  • 1 Cucumber Thinly sliced for added crunch.
  • 1 small Red onion Thinly sliced to balance the richness of the cheese.
  • 1 Avocado Sliced to enhance the richness of the burger.

Fresh herbs

  • 1 handful Basil or mint leaves Adds an aromatic touch to the dish.

Condiments

  • 4 tablespoons Pesto or hummus These spreads add depth and flavor to the burger.
  • Chili sauce or aioli Optional, for a spicy kick.

Seasoning

  • Salt and pepper To taste, essential for seasoning the halloumi.

Instructions
 

  • 1. Start by slicing the halloumi cheese into thick slices, approximately 1-1.5 centimeters.
  • 2. Preheat your grill or a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  • 3. Lightly brush both sides of the halloumi slices with olive oil.
  • 4. Place the slices on the grill or skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • 5. Slice the burger buns in half and toast them if desired.
  • 6. Assemble your burger starting with the bottom half of the bun, then layer on a lettuce leaf, grilled halloumi, tomato, cucumber, red onion, and avocado.
  • 7. Spread pesto or hummus on the top half of the bun and add chili sauce or aioli if desired.
  • 8. Place the top half of the bun on the assembled ingredients and press down gently.
  • 9. Serve your halloumi burger, cut in half if desired, with extra vegetables or chips on the side.
