Instructions
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
Allow the prime rib roast to come to room temperature for about 1 hour.
Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add minced garlic and chopped rosemary, cooking gently for 3-4 minutes.
Season the prime rib generously with kosher salt and black pepper.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the prime rib on all sides until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Brush the garlic-infused butter over the top and sides of the roast.
Transfer the roast to a roasting pan and insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the meat.
Roast at 450°F (232°C) for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue roasting until the desired doneness is reached.
Baste the roast with remaining garlic-infused butter and beef broth every 10 minutes during the last 30 minutes of roasting.
Remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
Slice the prime rib against the grain into thick slices and serve.
Notes
For variations, consider adding herbs or spices to the garlic butter or serving with different sauces.
