  • 1 pound Ground Beef Lean ground beef is recommended.
  • 1 medium head Cabbage Chopped.
  • 1 medium Onion Finely chopped.
  • 2-3 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese Shredded, reserve some for topping.
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • 0.5 cup Milk Whole or 2% milk works best.
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil For sautéing.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs Optional, for topping.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart. Cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Stir in chopped cabbage and cook for an additional 5 minutes until it begins to wilt.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup and milk. Stir until well blended.
  • Pour the soup mixture over the beef and cabbage. Stir well to coat all ingredients.
  • Fold in 1.5 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, reserving the remaining half cup for topping.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  • Sprinkle reserved cheddar cheese on top, followed by breadcrumbs if using.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbling and golden brown.
  • Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

This casserole can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge. It also freezes well for quick meals later.
