  • 4 medium Apples Peeled, cored, and sliced (mix of tart and sweet apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)

Dry Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Cocoa Powder Unsweetened, high-quality
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar To balance tartness of apples
  • 1 cup Flour All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder For leavening
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt To enhance flavors
  • 1/2 cup Butter Melted, unsalted
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon For flavor

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine sliced apples with 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Toss until well coated and set aside for 10 minutes.
  • In another bowl, mix together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until blended.
  • Melt the butter and let it cool slightly. Add the remaining 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and mix until smooth.
  • Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Gently fold the apple mixture into the batter.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  • Serve warm, optionally with whipped cream or ice cream.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat before serving.
