Instructions
1. Prepare the ingredients: slice onions and season ground beef with salt and pepper.
2. Form the beef into four equal patties with a slight indentation in the center.
3. Heat a skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of butter, and cook the onions until caramelized (10-15 minutes).
4. In the same skillet, cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip and add cheese on top.
5. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
6. Assemble the sandwich: place one slice of bread in the skillet, add a patty with cheese and caramelized onions, top with another slice of cheese and bread.
7. Grill the sandwich for 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then flip and grill the other side.
8. Repeat with remaining ingredients until all sandwiches are grilled.
9. Serve warm with your choice of sides.
Notes
For variations, try different cheeses, add jalapeños for spice, or use different breads.
