Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground Beef Use 80/20 fat content for juiciness.
  • 1 medium Onion Thinly sliced for caramelization.
  • 8 ounces Cheese American or Swiss cheese, about 4 slices.
  • 2 slices Bread Rye or sourdough, thick slices preferred.
  • 2 tablespoons Butter Unsalted, for grilling.
  • to taste Salt For seasoning the beef.
  • to taste Black Pepper Freshly ground, for seasoning the beef.

Instructions
 

  • 1. Prepare the ingredients: slice onions and season ground beef with salt and pepper.
  • 2. Form the beef into four equal patties with a slight indentation in the center.
  • 3. Heat a skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of butter, and cook the onions until caramelized (10-15 minutes).
  • 4. In the same skillet, cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip and add cheese on top.
  • 5. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  • 6. Assemble the sandwich: place one slice of bread in the skillet, add a patty with cheese and caramelized onions, top with another slice of cheese and bread.
  • 7. Grill the sandwich for 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then flip and grill the other side.
  • 8. Repeat with remaining ingredients until all sandwiches are grilled.
  • 9. Serve warm with your choice of sides.

Notes

For variations, try different cheeses, add jalapeños for spice, or use different breads.
