  • 1 pound Lean Ground Beef Cooked until browned.
  • 1 medium Onion Finely chopped.
  • 0.5 cup Green Bell Pepper Finely chopped.
  • 1 cup Tomato Sauce Essential for the sauce base.
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar Balances acidity of the tomato sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon Yellow Mustard Adds tanginess.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce Infuses umami flavor.
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black Pepper

Buns

  • 4-6 pieces Hamburger Buns Soft and sturdy.

Instructions
 

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Stir in the green bell pepper and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to low and add the tomato sauce. Stir to combine.
  • Add the brown sugar and mix until dissolved.
  • Incorporate the yellow mustard and Worcestershire sauce, stirring well.
  • Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Simmer on low heat for 5-10 minutes.
  • Toast the hamburger buns lightly.
  • Scoop the sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.
  • Top with the other half of the bun and serve warm.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days. Reheat before serving.
