Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
Add chopped onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until translucent.
Add minced garlic and sauté for another minute.
Add ground beef, breaking it apart, and cook until browned (6-8 minutes).
Drain excess fat if necessary, then stir in diced tomatoes with juices.
Add Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
Bring to a simmer, reduce heat, and cook uncovered for at least 30 minutes.
Adjust seasoning as needed, adding more sugar if too acidic.
Cook spaghetti according to package instructions, then drain.
Toss spaghetti with the meat sauce until well coated.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil and grated cheese if desired.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days. Can be frozen for up to three months.
