Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the egg and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, mixing until well combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
If using, fold in any optional mix-ins.
Drop rounded balls of dough onto a lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
