Frozen French Fries

  • 1 pound Frozen French Fries Crinkle-cut or steak fries preferred.

Onions

  • 2 medium Onions Yellow or sweet onions for caramelizing.

Butter

  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter For sautéing the onions.

Olive Oil

  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil To prevent butter from burning.

Garlic

  • 2 cloves Minced Garlic For added flavor.

Beef Broth

  • 1/2 cup Beef Broth To enhance the flavor of the onions.

Cheese

  • 2 cups Shredded Cheese Gruyère or Swiss cheese recommended.

Fresh Herbs

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the package of your frozen French fries (typically around 425°F or 220°C).
  • Peel and thinly slice the onions into half-moon shapes.
  • In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions to the skillet and stir gently to coat.
  • Cook the onions over medium heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until they soften and turn light golden.
  • Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Pour in the beef broth and continue cooking for another 5-10 minutes until the liquid has mostly evaporated and the onions are deeply caramelized.
  • Spread the frozen French fries on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake according to package instructions (about 20-25 minutes).
  • Once the fries are cooked, sprinkle the shredded cheese over them while hot.
  • Top the fries with the caramelized onions and return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs and serve immediately.

Notes

For variations, consider adding crushed red pepper flakes for spice or using different cheese blends.
