Popcorn

Candy Coating

  • 1 cup Granulated sugar Provides sweetness for the candy coating.
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter Adds richness to the coating.
  • 1/4 cup Light corn syrup Prevents sugar from crystallizing.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Enhances flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking soda Helps lighten the candy mixture.

  • as needed Cooking spray or parchment paper For prepping baking sheets.

Instructions
 

  • Start by popping the popcorn using your preferred method. Place the popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl.
  • Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with cooking spray.
  • In a saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and corn syrup over medium heat. Stir until it boils, then let it boil without stirring for 4-5 minutes until it turns light amber.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and baking soda carefully.
  • Divide popcorn into bowls and pour the candy mixture over each bowl, tossing to coat.
  • Add food coloring to each bowl and mix until evenly distributed.
  • Spread the colored popcorn onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and let cool completely before breaking into pieces.

Notes

Optional: Add sprinkles or edible glitter for extra fun!
