Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Cream together the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, add the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients.
Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
Repeat the process for the cookie layer, creaming butter with sugars, adding eggs and vanilla, then mixing in dry ingredients and chocolate chips.
Drop spoonfuls of brownie batter onto the baking sheets, then add spoonfuls of cookie dough on top.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, until edges are set and centers look slightly underbaked.
Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
