Tuna Mixture

  • 2 cans tuna (5 oz each) Opt for chunk light or solid white tuna packed in water or oil for best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise Choose a high-quality mayonnaise for creaminess.
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard Adds a zesty kick.
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped celery Provides a nice crunch.
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion Offers sweetness and crunch.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Brightens the tuna mixture.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder Adds aromatic depth.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper For seasoning.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Cheddar or American) Melts beautifully.
  • 4 slices bread Sourdough, whole grain, or white bread work well.
  • butter For toasting.

Instructions
 

  • Drain the canned tuna thoroughly and flake it into a mixing bowl.
  • Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, chopped celery, chopped red onion, lemon juice, garlic powder, and black pepper to the tuna. Mix well.
  • Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  • On the unbuttered side of two slices, spread the tuna mixture and top with shredded cheese. Place the other slices on top, buttered side out.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and toast the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Cover the skillet for the last minute to melt the cheese.
  • Remove from skillet, cut in half, and serve immediately.
